Why not a simple resize
Resizing an image upward just stretches existing pixels: the result is bigger, but blurry. The model used here was trained on thousands of low- and high-resolution image pairs to learn how to reconstruct plausible detail: sharper edges, richer textures, without the blur of a plain stretch.
Which factor to choose
- x2: the fastest, for a reasonable doubling of resolution.
- x3: a compromise between resolution gain and processing time.
- x4: the largest gain, at the cost of longer processing.
What this tool does not do
This model reconstructs plausible detail, not the real detail missing from the original photo: it does not replace an actual high-resolution photo. It works best on photos and illustrations, less well on fine text or graphics with very precise edges.
