What this tool does not do

This tool does not read HEIC photos (the default on some iPhones) : convert them to JPEG on the device first. On a PNG, compression changes format rather than truly shrinking the file, since the browser cannot produce a reduced-palette PNG.

Can I convert several images at once?

Why won't my HEIC file open?

HEIC is the default format on recent iPhones, and only Apple's own browsers can decode it. On Windows and Android, no web tool can read it without bundling a custom decoder. Setting the iPhone camera to "Most Compatible" in Settings, Camera, Formats fixes the problem at the source.

Does the conversion degrade the image?

Converting to PNG is lossless. To JPG or WebP, the compression is lossy, but stays invisible above 80% quality. Converting a JPG to PNG never restores detail already lost : the file just gets bigger without gaining sharpness.
