WAV doesn't compress the sound: maximum quality, a heavier file, readable by every editing software without exception. MP3 compresses the sound: a much lighter file, with quality that's plenty for listening or sharing.

How extraction works

This tool bundles a real audio and video engine: ffmpeg, compiled to WebAssembly, running entirely in your browser. The audio track is genuinely decoded and then encoded in the chosen format. The engine (about 30 MB) downloads once and then stays cached.

What this tool does not do

This tool only reads video formats your browser can already decode on screen (for the preview).
