What each setting changes

The bitrate (in kbps) sets how much data describes each second of video: the lower it is, the lighter the file, but the more fast-moving areas lose sharpness. Width works differently: downscaling a 4K video to 1080p, for example, lightens the file dramatically, often with no visible loss if it's watched on a smaller screen anyway.

Which setting to choose

• High fidelity: when quality comes first, with a more modest size reduction.

What this tool does not do

This tool only reads video formats your browser can already decode on screen (for the preview). The result is always produced in MP4 format, whatever the original format.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the resulting file MP4?

The tool genuinely re-encodes the video (H.264/AAC) through a real ffmpeg engine, not a simple re-recording. MP4 is the most widely compatible format.

Can the compression fail?

Rarely: only on a corrupted file or a format the engine doesn't recognize. Processing continues even if the tab isn't in the foreground.

Are my files sent to a server?

No: processing happens entirely in your browser, on your device. No file is ever transmitted to a server, at any point.
