A white border around a photo evokes a classic paper print and works with almost any image. A bold color border stands out more, useful for a series of visuals that need to be recognizable at a glance.

Why the thickness is a percentage

A border set in pixels would look thin on a large photo and thick on a small one. By calculating it as a proportion of the image, the look stays consistent across a whole batch, even if the photos don't all start at the same size.

What this tool does not do

This tool does not read HEIC photos (the default on some iPhones): convert them to JPEG from the device first. On a PNG, compression changes the format rather than truly reducing the size, since the browser cannot produce a reduced-palette PNG.

Yes: the frame is added around the photo, which keeps its original size intact, and the final file is slightly larger in width and height.

Can I use a transparent image as the background?

No, the border is a solid color. For a more elaborate frame, compositing in editing software is still needed.
