Why open an archive online

On a phone, or on a borrowed computer where you cannot install anything, opening a ZIP quickly turns into a problem. This page reads the archive in place: the file stays on your device, no server receives it, and you pull out only what you need.

What an archive holds

A ZIP is a catalogue followed by the compressed files. The tool reads that catalogue first, shows the names and sizes, then decompresses a file only when you ask for it. A large archive therefore opens instantly, even with hundreds of entries inside.

Supported methods

The two methods used by nearly every archive are handled: stored, with no compression, and deflate, the one produced by Windows Explorer, the Finder and most software. Rarer methods, such as those from converted 7-Zip archives, are not.

What this tool does not do

Password-protected archives, archives above 4 GiB in the ZIP64 format and exotic compression methods are not supported. The tool also does not open RAR and 7z files, which are not ZIP archives.

Frequently asked questions

Is my archive sent anywhere?

No. Reading happens entirely inside the page, on your device. You can even cut your connection once the page has loaded: extraction keeps working.

Can I grab everything at once?

Files download one by one, on purpose: a browser firing dozens of simultaneous downloads gets blocked by its own protection. For a very large archive, installed software stays more comfortable.

Is my data sent to a server?

No: the text you type or paste is processed entirely in your browser, on your device. It is never transmitted to a server.

Do I need an account or an install?

No: the tool works directly on this page, with no sign-up and no installation.
